Genomics
Genomics is a discipline which concerns the study of the whole genome of a cell or an organism, while
transcriptomics characterises the expression of the cellular genes under experimental or pathological
conditions.
Both approaches based on nucleic acid studies as well as on the characterisation of their modifcations
require state-of-the-art technologies which share many parameters. The Genomics platform ofers a
broad range services from Sanger sequencing to high throughput sequencing or epigenetics analyses.
In 2012, the GIGA has acquired an ILLUMINA MiSeq V2 benchtop sequencer that allows a wide range
of applications like complete sequencing (paired-end up to 2x250 bp) and de novo assembly of small
genomes, automated QC workfows prior to a large-scale sequencing study, amplicon sequencing from
FFPE tissues, amplicon sequencing of a Cancer panel, metagenomic sequencing (16s rDNA),… Using the
micro and nano reagent kit, MiSeq allows low output applications.
In 2013, the platform will acquire 2 Next Generation Sequencers allowing ultra deep sequencing.
These technologies as well as the expertise of the team constitute a unique opportunity to analyse a huge
amount of nucleic acid sequences very quickly.
