LabHotel
The LabHotel is an innovative concept of business facility. It is an industry dedicated lab, fully integrated
in the GIGA-Research open lab. Companies have a turnkey solution with an equipped lab, a full access
to the shared equipment of GIGA-Research and the GIGA technology platforms. In addition, they can
attend all scientifc activities organized in GIGA (scientifc conferences, technological trainings,…).
The LabHotel is also a place where a post-doc researcher can settle down when coming back from
abroad, to search for grant and develop his team in a comprehensive and motivating environment.
IMCYSE
Imcyse is a biomedical start up created by Professor Jean-Marie Saint-Remy in July 2010. The tech
platform that was developped is the result of his work and the one of his research team in the Molecular
and Vascular Biology Center of the Leuven University (Belgium).
In January 2011, the company acquired an exclusive worldwide licence at the KULeuven, with the right
to grant sub-licences, on 7 patent applications, which allows Imcyse to carry out activities related to this
tech platform. The invention has an international patent (PCT), with a total of 7 patents, one of which
is a frst international patent protecting the tech platform. This basic patent also covers the use of the
technology in the feld of allergic diseases ( eg : asthma and allergic rhinitis) and auto-immune diseases
(eg : multiple sclerosis, myasthenia gravis, diabetes of type 1). Five other patents relate to the medical use
of the platform in the areas of transplantation (transplant rejection) immune responses of the immunogenic
biotherapy (eg FVIII inhibitors, antibodies against monoclonal antibodies), infectious diseases, gene
therapy and cancer. A seventh patent relates to the cellular therapy component of the technology
platform.
Imcyse employes 8 persons among which 5 are localized in the GIGA-LabHotel. These people are working
on 2 projects of a total budget of more than 3 millions of euros (mainly funded by the Walloon Region).
The research is aiming the pre-clinical development of curative vaccine against multiple sclerosis and-
myasthenia gravis with the collaboration of the group of Vincent Seutin from the GIGA-Neurosciences
and the Laboratory of Cell and Gene Therapy (LTCG) of Yves Beguin from the GIGA-I3.
