Forem-GIGA biotechnology
Training Center
The Forem-GIGA Biotechnology Training Center was created in 2005 by the Walloon Ofce for
Employment and Training of Liège (Le FOREM) in partnership with the Interdisciplinary Cluster in Applied
Genoproteomics (GIGA) of the University of Liège, supported by the European Regional Development
Fund (FEDER) and the Walloon Region. Our aims are to develop and organize biotechnology training pro-
grammes for job-hunters and company staf, in response to market needs and to complement the training
ofered by technical colleges in terms of techniques and specifc expertise. Current topics addressed are:
molecular biology, molecular diagnostics, immunology, protein production and purifcation, gas and liquid
chromatography, cell culture, quality control, quality assurance, validation, biosafety, GxPs, bioinforma-
tics, regulatory afairs, and project management. Besides these subjects, training sessions can be tailored
to customer needs. To achieve our goals, the Biotechnology Training Center works in close collaboration
with both the academic and industrial worlds of biotechnology, and most of the company-staf training
programmes are validated by Biowin, the Health Cluster of Wallonia. The setting up of our new facilities,
thanks to the FEDER programme, being achieved, we can welcome trainees under optimal conditions for
reinforcing their skills and expertise. 2012 was highlighted by the launch of a new training session focused
on Bioinformatics and Biostatistics, action funded by Biowin, the hiring of a new trainer coming from a
private company and the launch of our newsletter ‘Les Actus du Biotechnology Training Centre’ sent
twice a year to companies. The Center has also continued to diversify the range of topics covered. For
example, in 2013, a session focused on Quality Assurance will be organised. After 7 years of existence,
the Center has reached maturity. For the future, we will continue to strive to maintain and develop the
quality of the actions we organize to promote even greater client satisfaction.
