GIGA-Cancer
The GIGA-Cancer TRU gathers 8 teams withmore than 145members working in close collaboration with clinicians of the University Hospi-
tal (CHU of Liège) using advanced epigenetic, genomic, proteomic andmetabolomic technologies applied to human samples or experimental
models. GIGA-Cancer researchers are exploringmolecular and cellularmechanisms involved in cancer formation, progression and dissemina-
tion.Theyare investigating intrinsic featuresofprimary, metastaticandcirculating tumorcells.Furthermore, aspecial emphasis isgivenon tumor
heterogeneity and on the tumor microenvironment composed of extracellular matrix and host cells such as immune cells, inflammatory cells,
cancer-associatedfibroblastsandbloodor lymphaticendothelial cells.Amajorgoal is to identifypredictive, prognosticanddiagnosticmarkersof
cancerwith theultimateaim todeveloppersonalized treatment and toovercome the tumor resistanceor adaptation to therapiescurrentlyused
in clinic. To unravel themechanisms underlying abnormal tissue remodeling, angiogenesis and inflammation, the TRUmembers are extending
their study toother disorders includingocular diseases, lung inflammatorydisorders, preeclampsia, endometriosisandembryonic implantation.
