GIGA 2021 Annual Report 87 Bianca SILVA South Africa Bachelor of Science in Molecular and Cell Biology. Bachelor of Health Science in Molecular Medicine and Haematology. Master of Science in Medicine Why did you apply to the GIGA Doctoral School for Health Sciences? I was initially drawn to the GIGA Doctoral School for Health Sciences because of the three-month doctoral education training program. I believe that acquiring research-related skills is necessary for doctoral students, and I appreciate that the GIGA Doctoral School for Health Sciences focuses on developing the skills of their early-stage researchers. Beyond this, I was intrigued by the opportunity to select a host laboratory and PhD project in an international and multicultural environment. Larry FORT USA B.S. Psychology M.A. Experimental Psychology Why did you apply to the GIGA Doctoral School for Health Sciences? I found it quitedifficult topursuequestionsof consciousness in psychological science within the United States. Given the field’s history, aiming for Europe seemed to be a natural course. The GIGA Doctoral School fosters a diverse and supportive environment that understands large questions, such as consciousness, must be tackled in an interdisciplinary manner. I look forward to the journey. My potential for growth has never been higher. 2021 SELECTED CANDIDATES Laboratory chosen GIGA CRC in vivo imaging, Physiology of Cognition Promoter: Athena Demertzi Laboratory chosen GIGA-I3, Laboratory of Hematology.
