Congratulations to all the researchers who have distinguished themselves and received an outstanding award during 2023! May Pierre Close receives an award of the Worldwide Cancer Research for his project “Demystifying what makes melanoma so good at resisting treatments” and is receiving £155,000 in funding. May Sophie Laguesse and Pierre Maquet receive research funding from the Reine Elisabeth Medical Foundation. Sophie obtained a “young researcher” funding of 60.000€ for her project on the effect of alcohol on the brain of adolescents and Pierre a credit of 120.000€ for his projects on the use of the 7 Tesla MRI in neurological research. Jun Michaël Herfs was winner of the Audacious Medical Grant in Oncology 2023 for his original and daring research project focused on cervical cancer. Jun Arnaud Blomme has been awarded an incentive grant for scientific research, from FNRS which enables young researchers to develop their own units. Dec Laurent Nguyen was winner of the 2023 Audacious Medical Grant in Neurology for his original and daring research project into the mechanisms underlying brain development. Dec Christine Bastin has been awarded a 300,000€ grant by Stop Alzheimer to help detect the first signs of Alzheimer’s disease earlier, so that we can benefit from the effectiveness of current treatments. NEW FNRS RESEARCH ASSOCIATES Arnaud Blomme, Grégory Ehx and Stéphanie Herkenne appointed FNRS Research Associate Arnaud Blomme | his research focuses on identifying and characterizing the mechanisms that support tumor progression and promote tumor resistance. Grégory Ehx | his research focuses on acute myeloid leukemia (AML). Stéphanie Herkenne | her research focuses on the development of therapeutic strategies to treat vascular diseases and cancers.
