An H2020 project for building a bovine (epi)genomic map

Carole Charlier (GIGA-Medical Genomics) is work package leader of the recently granted Horizon 2020 collaborative project "BovReg: Identification of functionally active genomic features relevant to phenotypic diversity and plasticity in cattle".

The 20-partner consortium coordinated by Germany will receive ~ 6 M€ in research funding over four years to deliver a comprehensive catalog of functionally active elements in the bovine genome. Together with the GIGA Genomics platform, Dr Charlier and her team will receive ~ 1 M€ to provide high quality RNA-, ChIP- and ATAC-seq data from multiple breeds, tissues, developmental stages and cell lines.

The establishment of this key resource is critical for advancing our understanding of the biology underlying important traits in beef and dairy cattle as well as for improving livestock breeding and production technologies, such as genomic selection.
