GIGA - Annual report 2022

34 RESEARCHERS Yasukata Mizoro obtained a fellowhip from the Canon Foundation Europe Yasukata Mizoro (Animal Genomics Unit, IBD team – GIGA- Medical Genomics) obtained this fellowship for his Postdoctoral research project aiming to uncover IBD causative genes using state-ofthe-art CRISPR gene editing technologies and single cell transcriptomics in hematopoietic stem cells and intestinal organoids. Thomas Marichal, winner of the Baillet Latour Biomedical Award Thomas Marichal (Laboratory of Immunophysiology – GIGA-I3) is the winner of the prestigious Baillet Latour Biomedical 2022 Prize. This prize of one million euros (over 5 years) will allow him to better understand the host mechanisms regulating tissue repair and immunopathological responses upon respiratory viral infections. Specifically, he will investigate the biology of an asyet-unknown cell entity that emerges during the recovery phase of influenza and Covid-19 infections and likely orchestrates key immune and tissue repair responses, with the goal to provide solid foundations for novel myeloid cell-targeted approaches promoting health and preventing severe disease phenotypes. Agnès Noël recognized for her career by the BSCDB During the 50th anniversary of the BSCDB (Belgian Society for cell and Developmental Biology), Agnès Noël (GIGA-Cancer - LBTD) and Désiré Collen (KUL) were rewarded for their entire scientific career.
